I don't know if anyone else has noticed a what appears to be a new pair of cameras on the A303 near Mere, Wilts.

I saw a guy in a silver car with a laptop next to them (calibrating?) on Friday whilst in slow traffic, it's located on the two way section Chaddenwick Hill & the turning for Burton, it's on the Eastbound side, they may just be ANPR cameras, however with Wiltshire/Dorset having one of the worst records for sneaky & underhand tactics I thought I ask/let you know of their presence.

What do they look like? I don't know the area so hard to identify!

IIRC there are two of them one for each direction, they seemed to be cylindrical & longish, it was hard to tell as I was concentrating more on traffic conditions than them.

Fair enough, I'll have a look at submissions in that area and see if I can pinpoint them!

Been down the A303 today past the location in question. I can confirm the camera's in question are ANPR.

Ah maybe, however it is possible, to use them by A-B timings.

Never trust them when it comes to money, especially the money grabbing oinks of Wiltshire & Dorset.

But not until they are Home Office approved.

Oh forgot to say beware the roadside bushes down there, they sometimes sprout arms... With a speed gun attached!

Also innocuous looking shoeboxes lying beside the road in the Christchurch area, you'll find it has a wire leading to a van nearby!

Do shoebox cams have Home office approval?

I suppose it depends on what camera is inside.

I would have thought these days a shoe box with wire attached at the side of a road would be far more likely to lead to a controlled explosion courtesy of Bomb Disposal.

Probably. But I & two others on bikes noticed the van + operator parked a short distance away. 3 tickets narrowly missed! Very Happy
