Hi,

I've been using an original TomTom 'One' on my motorcycle for about 5-6 years. I have it connected to my Starcom intercom via an audio lead connected to the TomTom 3.5mm audio connector, and I use a plastic bag to keep the water out.

As you can tell, after more than 5 years of regular use, this works just fine for me. I don't see the need to pay the cost of a Rider or Zumo, especialy given all the apparent troubles with the cradles etc.

However, my trusty device is starting to show it's age and will probably need replacing soon (SD card has taken to vibrating loose so I've had to fix in place with some hot glue, which is working fine for now Smile).

My question is simply to ask if there are any current Start/GO/XL devices that still have physical audio output connectors? the TomTom site sems to have next to no technical details of their units, and a quick google search has failed to fine the answer, so I'm assuming the connector has been droped from all devices in favour of Bluetooth.

Can anyone confirm this, or do I need to resort to soldering iron to fit my own?

Regards,

Glenn

The accessory mounts "Active Dock Traffic RDS-TMC (with iPod support)" and the "Active Dock for fixed installation" (for the x40/x50 models) both have a line output socket.

As supplied new there are no TomTom devices in the current product range with a Line-Out socket fitted, as Andy mentioned you can add this capability to the x40/ x50 range by purchasing one of the accessory mounts but bear in mind that will add a further £25 to £35 to the all up cost, even more if you go for the mount with the built RDS receiver.

I would look at a Go-530 or Go-730 refurbished unit direct from TomTom as both these have the required 3,5MM socket built in see Here for details - Mike

Many thanks for the replies.

The active docks may be a little problematic as I tend to leave the mount on the bike in all weathers even when the TomTom is dismounted.

I was not aware of the refurb units though, that sounds interesting, and I may well investigate further.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Regards,

Glenn

I've got a go 730 which has one problem for me and that is the line out won't output the phone when I connect it. I've just bought a new car and I can't hear the inbuilt speaker when driving with the phone connected by bluetooth. The line out works fine for driving instructions and MP3 playing etc but because it doesn't work with the phone I can't use it. I've only had it a couple of months and bought it as a refurbished unit. In every other way its fine. I dug out my old Garmin Nuvi 360 and updated it and that does take the phone output to the line out and works great. I'm pleased Garmin continues to support that model because with the updates its still a good piece of kit. I suggest you look for an older model like that as long as its still supported with updates. One with an easier life than yours could still have a couple of years left in it.

In the early days of the Go-x10 it was possible to hack the unit to play the handsfree audio via the line out socket but soon after this was mentioned an update to the Navcore software stopped it working and its never worked since on any other device which is a real shame - Mike

I have a 740 and bought the mount with audio output so I could use it on the bike in a Givi Satnav bag. Howeve, TT in their wisdom have deliberately fixed the volume at maximum (unless this is fixed in a more recent navcore as I never tried again as it was useless if I couldn't control volume on the move through the device.

Consider getting a set of earphones with an inline volume control, they are available for little outlay - Mike
