I got fed up with my inbuilt POIs getting in the way so renamed my POI.DAT to POI-X.DAT so that it's not recognised and I just see my custom POIs listed.
The trouble is I've started using the map correction "report" button to mark locations I want to modify later, and want to mark them as "add a missing POI", but now don't have any inbuilt POIs, so get a " No POI found" error message. Is it possible to make a new POI.dat file with just a dummy POI category so that I can mark the location then use TYRE to edit it later to the correct category. Any ideas?

Also is it possible to edit the report button icon to something a little less intrusive?

As you've found, without the poi.dat file, you can't add pois via mapshare as that's for internal pois and not 3rd party ones.

A way around is to start doing a change of road direction for example but don't save it. If you cancel out and go to "browse map", the cursor will be at the point selected and you can add points to your own files from there.

If you're going to use Tyre, you could just make a note of the co-ordinates from the bottom of the screen and type it into Tyre.

The icon design is built in so can't be changed.

The categories in POI.DAT are fixed by the tomtom application. It is not possible to make a POI.DAT with a dummy category. It is, however, possible to make a POI.DAT with just one POI in one of the existing categories, or one POI in each of the existing categories, would either of these options serve your purpose?

not sure, do you mean have a POI.dat with just one category, that would be fine
I have been experimenting and found an alternative way to do it. If you report a mobile speed camera, this saves the location to a OV2 file

If you want to PM me your email address I'll send you a POI.DAT file that has just one dummy entry in the "Winery" category.

many thanks Paul, it works a treat. The report mobile camera option was giving me problems as it sometimes caused the TT to reboot Confused
