Being relatively new to the use of PDA's I have found this forum to be mine of valuable information.

Currently I’m using the 2210 with an Emtac BTGPS running Memory Map software (OS mapping and CAA charts) and in the short time I’ve had the gear I’ve been very impressed.

I now wish to get street navigation software and TomTom 3 appears the best for my purposes, however I’m aware, through this forum, of problems with TomTom 3 and the 2210.

I have two questions with this:

1. Could someone definitely confirm that the problem with the 2210 and TTN3 is linked only with Bluetooth GPS and not a wired GPS, I ask this as I would like to have a wired GPS permanently fixed in my car supplying a cradle, only using the BTGPS when flying and other uses away from the car.

2. Can the PDA be configured to link with both a Bluetooth GPS (for use with MM software) and a wired GPS (with TTN3) - I'm concerned that the having the choice of two GPS inputs might cause problems.

And on a completely different note, can a Bluetooth headset be linked to the PDA’s audio output, also I'm guessing only one Bluetooth device can be connected at a time.

Any help on the above would be much appreciated.

I don't know about the 2210 so I cannot comment there or if its limitations affect the next answers I give.

You can use a wired or BT GPS as you only have to change to COM port settings from usually COM1 (HW) to COM8 (BT) for the GPS. You could set each application to a different COM port and they should not interfere. They may even run at the same time when using different COM ports.

Yes you can use a bluetooth headset with a PDA. My PDA (5500) certainly supports multiple simultaneous connections inclduing a headset. Your BT headset may be a little less configurable and will only work with one device at a time. Mine remembers the last paired device used and tries to connect back with that if initiated from the headset.

I can answer the first of your questions by saying that the problem you refer to with the 2210 is DEFINITELY a bluetooth problem and not a TomTom wired GPS problem.

Many thanks for your quick replies - I will now look for the best deal for TTN3 with wired GPS and the dedicated 2210 cradle.

Thanks again

No dropout issues with a wired GPS and indeed the BT dropout seems to affect users who have SD storage for maps rather than CF. I have a 2210 with BT GPS and use CF, never had an issue.

As for using two GPS's units, you can even use them simultaneously if you chose, one running MM, the other TT (although I'm not sure why you'd want to!).
