Did anyone on here manage to fine a solution to stuttering Kate? Would it help if I move the Kate voice file to my SDHC drive? _________________ TT Go 720 v8.204

My 950 Kate stutters quite a bit and some of the pronounciation is terrible. The TTS doesn't seem to have come on any further since the 910 I own. The fact the 910 is clearer is an insult. I have an iPhone app called "speak it!" and the voice is far better.
The pronounciation abroad is really bad and it's almost better to have place names switched off. |

I think you are a bit hard on Kate - in my opinion it's one of the best computer generated voices I have heard. Even the rise and fall at the beginning and end of sentences is very realistic. I have used Kate fairly extensively throughout France, and the pronunciation of street names has been good enough to be easily recognised (and the occasional howlers give us some innocent pleasure)
My first TTS was on CoPilot Live, and Kate is light years ahead.

I use Kate on a daily basis cos the English male voice is very depressing. Kate sounds like she is telling you off though. One of the first phrases my son said when starting to talk was 'toll charge!"
My 69 year old father hears two voices at once when in mainland Europe.
I still think the voice could be tweaked a bit as some basic words sound wrong. |

I can live with Kate's vocal antics, they were quite amusing on a recent trip through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. I don't think her spoken commands are any worse than any other female giving directions and are invariably more reliable..... |

Well you can improve Kate's pronunciation overall by doing this fix, detailed here. But read all the caveats first - eg. St becomes S and T as 2 words (as you delete the file which converts St to Saint), and it reportedly loses many of the (Canadian) French pronunciations (for the same reason).
[ Why doesn't TT just edit the offending file to remove those adaptations which hamper Loquendo? Admittedly it is most likely a TeleAtlas file, but they are all part of the same company now. ] _________________ Go Premium X / Go 1005 |
