|

Hi All,
My 910 stopped charging a while ago so I went and bought a new battery, but that doesn't charge either, however I noticed that a capacitor has blown (if looking at the top with the screen facing away from you, it's the one on the top left, a fairly large one, either C121 or C122), I'm fairly certain it's C122, however I have no clue what type it was or what value it was and I was wondering if anyone here could help get it going again.
Regards,
Keith |

The voltage feedback core in the car charger lead has broken which sends 12V straight in to the Sat Nav, the chances are that far more than just the one component has failed.
Cut th ecar charger lead in half and put it straight in the bin rather than risk damaging anything else with it, this is a fairly well known problem of devices from four years ago - Mike |

OK, thanks for the quick reply Mike.
Tho' for the price of one SM capacitor it seems a shame to chuck the rest of the 910 away, just incase it is just the cap that's blown. So if anyone knows what type/what value it is, I would still like to try to salvage it.
Cheers,

Small surface mounted caps are often for stability or decoupling, and the circuit often works without them, unless of course they are a timing capacitor for a SMPS or similat. Shoving anything up to 13.8 volts from your car up a 5.2v circuit is likely to do quite a bit of damage, unless the device is specifically designed to withstand this sort of treatment. It's a bit like shoving 640v up your 240v TV. Probably wouldn't like it much.
Sorry I can't help with the value, but if it's a decoupler, the value is not critical. Let us know how you get on |
