I am the first to submit 2 new gatso camera sites - they have the camera posts erected and road markings but not cameras at the moment - does this count as viable submission or do the actual cameras have to be fixed in place ? |

the actual camera would need to be in place. otherwise it could just be a new sign, or traffic monitoring etc...

ps - how do you KNOW you were first? |

They are camera posts which have the arm ready for the camera to be attached + the new road marking are the same as other truvelo cameras .
when I submitted the sites a black square with a cross is on the submission map so I take it I''m the first. |

So, if I drive past the location tomorrow to 'verify' it, it will be rejected because there is no camera there.
Best bet is to wait until the camera is fully installed!

No, that's not correct....
The only cameras shown on the map are the VERIFIED ones, and you also see YOUR OWN submissions of new cameras.
You DON'T see other people's submissions before they have been confirmed, so there is no way to tell from the map if you were the first.
To be honest I thought that information was on the submission map page, but I could not see it there when I looked just now. |

Yes, but the point is you don't see other people's submissions, and they may have been made long before yours. |

in MOST cases the 'cross hairs' icon means it was first BUT this is not 100% - pretty good rule of thumb though.

Be aware that it is often the case that we get many submissions for new fixed cameras and the criterion for award includes the word "ACCURATE". There's a thread (which I can't find somewhere) in which MaFt showed the sort of scattergun, shotgun effect of multiple submissions, with locations spread along the roadside. He usually chooses the mean average centre location. That means if a Verifier comes along and agrees the new camera, BUT wants it relocated a little way up or down the road, one of the other submissions may get it. Remember, there may well be a whole host of other members who are convinced they submitted an absolutely spot on location! _________________ Dennis
