How do I install maps to my Nuvi 550

I've bought the Nuvi 550 and the discoverer map to go with it but I'm having problems installing it. When I click add to device (the only option) it tells me that the device isn't supported and that there isn't enough space (107MB).

As there's a 4gb SD card in the Nuvi and the 550 is listed as supported for the map I'm guessing that myGarmin is trying to install the map in what little is left of the main memory and not the SD card. As there is no option to do anything else but "Add to device" I'm guessing that the only way around this is to
a) Copy the main memory to a folder on my PC
b) Delete main memory
c) Add the map to the device
d) Copy the map to a micro SD card
e) Delete the map
f) Copy the main memory back from my PC

The only problem I can foresee with this (apart from the time it will take) is c where there is a risk that the device will not be recognised.

Does anyone have an easier way of getting the map installed?

As I suspected c was where it all went wrong so I'm now busy copying everything back. I put the SD card in straight from the box (i.e. it has no folders in it). Do I need to put a folder in it for the down-loader to recognise it?

Sorted.

Uninstalled all the Garmin software, Java & Firefox, rebooted, reinstalled and tried again. This time there was an option to copy the map to the SD card and 5 hours later ( ) it's all working
