Just a query. I regularly back up my devices after/before making changes using Win Explorer. I know, and have tried, the HOME BackUp, but when one has more than one device, does a new backup of (say) device No1 override the backup of device No2, or is each backup saved in an appropriate folder for each device Question

I don't know the answer but use Windows Explorer to follow the path: -

C:\Documents and Settings\Your ID\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Backup\GO\

I then only have one more folder for Backup01 if there are separate ones for each device there should I guess be another one for Backup02. I will try later today as I have two devices but never use Home to backup as I always use Explorer but you already know that you should do that anyway.

I suspect that you are partly right. It is possible to change the destination files in Home - preferences, so again, I suspect, that to answer my own question, the thing to do is to create a different file destination for each of my devices and ensure the correct one is selected for each BackUp. Having checked my test BackUps of each device through HOME, it does appear that each subsequent one has overwritten the last despite each one being a different device, This means I end up with one only, BackUp. Not separate backups. So that means another thumbs down for HOME.

Graham, Use Windows Explorer for backups as Home isn't very good or reliable for backups, feed it with multiple devices like you are doing and you will be loosing valuable data using Home.

Instead create a folder on your PC for all data associated with TomTom and in it create sub-folders for each device:

A decent storage folder stucture gives you the option to roll back Navcores per device and maps etc should that ever be needed, sadly Home is rather useless for supporting multiple devices, the downside to my approach of device specific folders for maps, backups, Applications etc is storage space consumption, the TomTom section alone on my PC is currently around 250GB of data! - Mike

Yes, very good advice, Mike. I did this about a year ago on your very good suggestion. My PC slowly (actually, very quickly) got really full, so I have transferred the whole TT Folder system to a remote Seagate backup device. Even that is slowly filling up. I think a little pruning is overdue.

The current thread came about because I wanted to investigate just how good/bad HOME really is. Just curiosity really. Probably not bad for the one-device average user, but I would still keep at least one back up apart from the HOME one.

You are also correct in saying that using Home can lead to loss of valuable data. My recent Home backups for my latest acquisition have over-written the earlier backups for others in my stable. Luckily, they are also backed up elsewhere.
Graham

I have now tried to backup my second device using Home and can confirm that as I guessed the second device has created an additional folder called Backup02 so that's the answer but you should still use Windows for better security and the chance to have multiple backups for each device.
