I have searched for this topic and cannot find it, but my search returns so many results that it would be easy to miss it. I offer my apologies if this has already been answered.

I am running Tomtom Navigator 5 (TTN5) on an iPAQ HX2110 (OS is Windows 2003 SE). I am considering buying a newer iPAQ (e.g. an HX2190 or HX2490 - OS is Windows Mobile 5) second hand partly to have the advantage of persistent memory (so you don't lose everything if the battery drains) and partly to run TTN6.

1. TTN5 & 6

Are there any killer advantages of having TTN6 over TTN5?

I believe there is one - TTN6 allows more categories of POIs. (When downloading the safety camera database, I download 'speed zoned complete'. This has about 50 categories - as a result I can only have about 8 custom POIs, which I find irritatingly small. I know I could download one of the smaller databases instead).

Would somebody please tell me if I am right in thinking that TTN6 allows more categories of POIs? And are there any other advantages over TTN5?

2. TTN7

The Tomtom website gives the impression that TTN7 does not run on iPAQs. Surely this is wrong?

Are there any killer advantages of TTN7 over TTN6?

Thanks.

Only maps that are slightly less out of date but they are still around three years out of date compared to the latest. Custom POI categories can be added upto 100 which is an improvement.

Its capable of running the latest maps. You can change the car icon displaying your current position in 3D mode and you get the Navigate to Lat/ Long option.

To be honest I would take a look at Sygic for your iPAQ as this offers an interface very similar to TomTom and up to date maps with no installation issues on your hardware.

Why TomTom have restricted the TTN7 application to only a handfull of devices isn't known, if you purchase it and find it won't install/ activate then they won't offer a refund because your hardware isn't on their device list - Mike
