Hi Folks,

I had a TomTom Go 510 which was causing problems mating with the car holder - going over bumps would cause it to ask if I wanted to connect to my computer Rolling Eyes .

So having Curry's protection policy took it back and they sent it for repair - TomTom and Dock but not the SD which they gave me back.

Not being able to repair in the allocated time - they replaced the TomTom rather than repaired.

However got home plugged in SD card and TomTom starts up by asking for settings lang, time, voice etc but it then reports a problem trying to write to update the data.

It then comes up no Maps detected Crying or Very sad .

Checked the card and all data is where it was previously Confused

Anyone know why or how to fix this?
or is it back to Curry's for me?

Hi. I thought SD card maps were locked to one device which may be why you new unit is not finding the maps. Else what is to stop you giving your SD card to someone else to use in their unit.
You might need to contact TomTom to explain the problem to them. Someone else will be along shortly to correct this if it is not right.

Ok as promised,

Steps we went through.

I suggest you do a backup before deleting stuff and rename the TomTom folder in My Documents(or wherever stored) so you can get back any previous custom settings, contacts, voices, cameras, pois, etc.

Deleted all files on SD and Formatted Card.
(do this when the TomTom is connected to the PC, FAT 32 and not a quick format) Wink

Then Connected to TomTom Home and updated device which put everything back on.

This solved the problem of seeing the maps however there was still a problem accessing or writing to one of the files which meant that I was having to go through the Start-Up process(Selecting lang, time, voice etc.) everytime I turned the TomTom on.

So those nice people at TomTom sent me a link to a file which when downloaded cleared out or erased the onboard Flash memory.
Was also instructed to do a checkdisk on the SD which seemed to fix errors.

et Voila all good now Very Happy

HTH's anyone who comes across the prob.
(If anyone needs the file to fix the flash mem prob IM me and I'll pass it on) to use at your own risk because I've no idea what it actually does though it is packaged as a TomTom app. Exclamation

The clear flash tool is available for download from the TomTom web site it seems to fix a number of different issues such as unseen maps, map activations etc.

As you sent off a 510 which is quite an old device these days what did they replace it with? - Mike

That *is* the only difference - one region/country map on the 510. All of Western Europe on the 710.

Well done! Very Happy
