HI there

wondering if any one can help me out (please be gentle im still fairly new to these forums Very Happy )

I have just used my sat nav (tom tom730) for the first time since updating to the new maps for UK and Europe from last month ( app version = 8.351, map version = 840.2562, GPS v1.20 boot 5.5120) and while driving the map details (such as roads, POIs, car arrow, quick link to short cuts, etc) will just disappear leaving the bottom blue bar with the time, distance etc still there and the background will still be there and maybe 3 or 4 seconds later the details will come back.

I have done a reboot and stuff but not sure if it is a issue with the software, the hardware or just the weather or something playing up.

does any one have any ideas?

I did use it with the traffic rds plugin and do have quite a few POIs from here, it isent a big problem because it does come back but is a bit annoying

Thanks for any help Very Happy

Tony

App v8.351 did get a reputation for screen redraw delay and flicker, but this sounds a bit more lengthy than those.

You could test using not so many POIs displayable (you can keep them on the 730, just don't display them until you want one). But I guess your best bet may be to put up with it until another app release. Rolling Eyes

Just disable the POI from being visible you don't have to delete them - Mike

Just a thought. It might be an idea to run the clear flash tool. Remember to do a full back up before you do it though. Wink

HI there what is the clear flash tool? just when i googled it most ppl say its for last resort and according to the tomtom site

"If you are having one of the problems described below, it could be that there are too many files in the flash memory on your device:
You are unable to activate the map on your TomTom device even though you have a valid product code.
You have to enter the passkey every time you connect your TomTom device with your mobile phone.
Your settings are not saved when you turn your TomTom device on and off.

To fix these problems, follow the instructions below to download and run the TomTom Clear Flash tool."

so im not sure if i should still use this.. or will it cabbage my unit Confused

Thanks

Tony

Clearflash tool doesn't do any harm at all. It sometimes even does good. Best run it three times, not just once.

I agree with Dennis - clearflash can temporarily cure all kinds of different issues and does not delete any files or settings from the device.

Run it 3 times and then do a pinhole reset for a clean boot.

It's not a stupid question......there isn't much in the way of feedback when it does its job.

Just the act of installing it with the unit connected to the computer causes it to work.

All clear-flash tool does is to remove anything in the RAM of the device. It does NOT remove anything stored on the internal storage memory or SD card.

Can be used safely and will do NO harm to your device.

Sometimes there can be files left in the RAM of the device which causes issues on the device. This tool is for clearing them away to allow the device to boot up correctly!

If the traffic TMC connector is the round type not the mini USB type this is a know bug.

TT have know about this since May 09, their advice to me "GO back the last navcore until we fix it".

I've had this problem myself ever since they changed the OS, however Ive just come back from a week long journey to France where I did not once have this problem - as soon as i got back in the UK it started up again - its's really annoying, somethign to do with our weaker TMC signal perhaps ?

I've noticed that each run of clear-flash will cause a single corrupt file fragment on the internal storage which then can be recovered using chksdk/f. I think its just the way it deletes itself after running rather than a corruption of existing files.
