I got the usual update email today offering me the wonderful opportunity to update my maps for a measly £49.95.

We I think it's way to much and sent them an email saying as much.

It was worth the effort, well sort of, their reply follows.

We do have an offer called the Map Update Service which allows you to update the maps on your device quarterly for a very small price. This service gives you every single release of your map over a fixed period, from the equivalent of just £ 7.95 per quarter.

So a saving of around £18.

Before I stump up my hard earned, (of which I have little)is there a cheaper way to do it, does anyone else write maps for the TT range.

If there is a really cheap option please PM me.

Kev.

Nope, sorry... no-one else produces maps for TomToms.

The Map Update service *is* a good deal, so long as you are up-to-date already. That price assumes you already have the current maps, but if yours are older, you also have to pay an extra (discounted) sum to get them up to date before you can subscribe.

Also, you do need to ask yourself if it is really important to you to always have the very latest maps. Most people complain that they cannot notice many differences on each successive update, so it might be more sensible to only update on every second or third map release.

Thanks Andy, I suspected it might be that way, Tom Tom are worse than Microsoft in my book.
