Hi
just bought a map of western europe v8.35 on sd card, was told it would work on tomtom 510,but it comes up as no maps found.
The previous sd card with western europe worked perfect, any ideas why this one won't
thanks Ian

Do you know which Software Version you have? It should be 7.9xx for an 835 Map.

If you have 7.9xx, have you tried a Pin-in-the-Hole Reset?

So, first question should be, where did you buy it?

Sounds well dodgy.....
No genuine TomTom map requires you to quote a device number to the seller!

Where did you buy this map from? Almost certainly pirated.

Sadly not. The only advice is to assume that any new maps being sold there are not legitimate.

As I said, if you had to quote a device number to the seller it HAS to be pirated. Maps sold by TomTom themselves on SD card have the map locked to the card itself not the device, only maps sold by download need to match themselves to the TomTom hardware.

To be honest TomTom don't do themselves many favours in this area, lets face it the device code hasn't been needed by a user for some considerable time so why the heck do they still make it visible to an end user?

This sort of sloppy code is akin to aiding and abetting piracy, their first line support don't need the device code so why does a user have it available?

OK so it is stored on the device but the majority wouldn't know where to look and they could easily encript that file so it cannot be read at all, such action would be a welcome change to the whole sloppy attitude to activations, its too easy to work around but when legitimate requests for activations are made customers are made to jump through hoops - The entire situation is farcical if you take a few moments to view the current situation they have created - Mike
