|
|
My 730 used to work fine on my laptop, I recently had to rebuild it as the HDD had failed and when I connected it this time the usual loading USB drivers data appeared in the system tray. but then stopped and it said the drivers were not installed. OK so I did a soft reset and tried again. this time it appeared to go partway through be fore my Laptop bluescreened. Any ideas anyone my laptop works fine otherwise so does my Tom Tom just cannot get updates etc. |

The first thing would be to soft reset the 730 and retry.
If that fails, locate the device in 'device manager' and uninstall it (needs to be connected to do this).
Then remove, reboot laptop, connect and retry.
If you don't know how to access device manager, reply with your OS and I can advise. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Darren,
Thanks but it bluesctreens before I even get a connection. I'm wondering if I do a factory reset and start again whether that may help. |

No in all other respects the laptop works fine and it is on;y when I try to connect my TomTom that it bluescreens. I notice thought that I have the new edition of Home installed 2.7.3.1894. Wonder if that is an update that in fixing other issues has up something for some Vista machines. |

Hello everyone, eventually overcame this issue, TomTom Support depite I have to say a lot of help couldn't resolve it.
How I got around it was to rebuild my HDD again, this was not great issue as I'd had to replace my HDD anyway and that brought about the problem. However I noticed that sometimes it wouldn't bluescreen when I connected my 730 but rather would halt, this was because the USB drivers had not loaded correctly.
What I did was rebuild my laptop but not install TomTom Home. I then plugged in my 730 and while it took 2 attempts it did load the drivers for the 730. I then installed Home after this and hey presto it worked. I suspect that if you install Home before you have had opportunity for your PC to load the USB drivers Home somehow prevents them loading.
Well it worked for me. |
