|
|
I had to post this here as, for some reason, it really tickled me!
We had a remove request for a Gatso recently and one of our verifiers visited and came back with this statement:
"REJECT - Comments say Gatso 'Does not exist' - It does, it's big and yellow and says "Gatso" on it."
Is a big, yellow Gatso really that hard to see?!

Good job you verify all reports/sightings before allowing into the database
Come on 'name and shame' the incompetent individual that reported the Gatso did not exist. _________________ TT Go 720 v8.204

Could it be its not an active one?
A similar thought went thought my mind about the Dartford Tunnel/Bridge Spec cameras.
Over the last few months they have had a sign up saying cameras not in use. If I was ever lucky enough to get over 50mph perhaps I would have really found out the truth
Also incidently, on a recent trip to Skegness ( yes sorry ), I had noticed numerous static fixed non-reversable Gatsos POI were on the wrong side of the road. Sadly I didnt get chance to take note and report.
Just thought this might lead to why someone would say the camera didnt exist, or should have gone to specsavers.

It is always possible that the camera was "away at the repairers", on the day that it was reported missing, but has since returned. _________________ Jock

In that case I'd have hoped the submission comments would say something like "I have evidence that this is an empty box" rather than just "it doesn't exist"!

Do you mean the heading data was wrong, or just that they looked to be wrong on the screen?
Actually, these days the camera icons are usually placed in the CENTRE of the carriageway on the map, but sadly, the accuracy of consumer sat-navs isn't that perfect.
If MaFt marks a position for a camera icon on the Google submission map, it often ends up looking slightly different when you view it on your sat-nav itself, and it will be different again on another brand.
It only needs a tiny inaccuracy in the mapping data, for it to make the difference between one side of the road and the other. |

Hey, what's the problem? That's why we have Verifiers, that's why our database is the best.
Everybody has "moments" (except me - perfection is a trial sometimes), it can happen to the best of you (but not me).
One cure is to get a few more satnavs on your windscreen. _________________ Dennis

Nant-y-gwyddon Road? Opposite side of the lovely river from where I usually travel, but I'll try to bear it in mind. I once went to Hirwaun that way for the joy of the beautiful countryside. _________________ Dennis

Ay thats the one Dennis - 53149. There are two shown on the road but only the 2nd one is actually there.
My step dad has been dead nearly 4 years now, and there hasn't been a camera there for that long and probably 3-4 years before that. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

It was the placement of the icon being on the wrong side of the road where the camera is positioned.
i.e if i was driving along the road, the camera would be on the left, but the icon is flashing on the right of the road. - or vice versa.
Its not really a major big deal as long as the AWS goes off in time! _________________ TomTom 700 GO user since Dec 2005.
