Today my GO740 has started playing silly beggars! When I ask it to navigate to a postcode it starts out OK but a few minutes later it displays a message (Yellow on Red); "Unable to store map settings: File access error".
On a 300 miles trip today it happened approximately every 2-3 minutes and often the screen would freeze. I had to keep an eye on it and when it froze, a tap on the screen followed by "done" put it back on track.
I am also getting a message occasionally (White on Black); "Not enough storage space". I have checked the memory a few times today and it is ranging from 7.9Mb to 10.1Mb. Up until Friday everything was working fine, and nothing has been changed on the unit.
Any ideas how to sort this?

Connect the device to the PC and shut Home down (if it starts up), use Windows Explorer to view the contents of the device (it will show up as its own drive letter), you need to open the Western_Europe map folder and locate the file "MapSettings.cfg" delete this file.
Use the disconnect USB device icon from the task bar on the PC then pull out the lead, let the unit boot up and it will create a new MapSettings.cfg file all on its own but you will lose and POI settings and your Home location.

If the above doesn't fix it you might need to make a full back up, format the device then copy everything back to the device (Use Windows Explorer to do all of this) - Mike

Another thing to consider...

Here is what TomTom suggests for rectifying that kind of problem.

Hey c'mon! Which fix? Somebody else is going to get this problem tomorrow and will find this thread without the end result.

yeah, sorry, I should have said, it was deleting the "MapSettings.cfg" file that did the trick. I'll try to be more complete in my words future.
