dvd vs sd card

As I understand it, the Garmin europe 2010 maps on DVD are loaded on to the PC and then you choose which maps to transfer to the device.

With the SD card version is the whole of Europe available all the time? or do you get to select parts of it?

I guess your choice will depend partly on the internal memory of your device. (Plug it into your computer to check if you've got enough).

My nuvi255WT came with the whole of europe pre-installed. It occupies something in excess of 1.5Gb of internal memory.

AFAIK, if and only if you get the maps on DVD, then it comes with the mapsource program, which enables you to select various tiles of maps (or indeed all the tiles) for transfer to your device. Alternatively, you can transfer from mapsource to your own SD card, (which would preserve your unit's existing internal map).

I have some other maps on my SD card, and the whole of them are available all the time. (Because mapsource stitches the tiles you select, into one composite map for use on the device).
