I've been given this old tomtom which has a faulty card. I need a navcore for it before I can update it and I remember seeing a link to some old navcores but I've being searching all night but I can't find it. I think it was oldboy that posted it

Oldboy's TomTom Go Update Page can be found here.

Don't forget to do a Windows back up of the device before changing anything.

cheers for the prompt reply, I didn't expect anyone to get back to me this evening or should I say morning, Laughing Out Loud.
There's nothing to back up since I've put a new card in and starting from scratch. All I was getting from the old one was a red X.

Do you still have the original card that was in the device?

Without that you will have no maps and without existing maps registered to your device the only way forward will be to purchase them from TT.

Thats not a low cost option and the device may still not work even when you have them.

yes I still have the original card but it's faulty. I did actually try copying everything off it onto a new card but that still gave me the dreaded red cross.
I saved the map off the card and thanks to Anita and Oldboy I've got it working. It needs updating anyway so I'm going to buy a map and not make the same mistake I once made. I bought a map from the TomTom site after changing devices but used my old account. I should have registered it with a new email address. That cost me alot of phone calls to TomTom to put it right.
Very Happy

korndog can you let us know how you saved the map from the faulty card? I guess you had to put the card into a card reader or some similar device or was there another way?

Apart from some more recent maps supplied on a locked SD card, there's never usually a problem with just copying the entire map folder from one place to another.
You can either use a card reader or the TomTom itself as a reader and should be able to copy it from card to PC and back again freely.

Yep, I used a card reader, it's usually faster than using the TomTom as a reader, the old ones anyway. The card might be ok but I've found out from experience that the card is usually at fault when you get a red cross. It would probably fail again if I'd simply reloaded the navcore onto it. it wouldn't be big enough for the latest map anyway
