Due to all sorts of ongoing problems and a current limited amount of finances my choice of satnav has become very restricted, I've looked at both of the above units and can't make my mind up which one to go for, one has an internal memory, but is it enough for online updates, the other takes an SD card, but how big an SD card can it cope with and is it a better choice, not bothered about bluetooth or any of the bells and whistles, just a unit that will last for 2-3 years, can be updated easily and won't break the bank. |

You should be fine with either device as there is enough spare memory on the device without the card slot, the only issue would be if you wanted to install more than a single map at any one time.
The device with the SD card slot can use memory cards up to 2GB in capacity - I am not 100% sure if it would work with a 4GB SD card if you can find such a card as most memory cards of 4GB and larger are the SDHC type which won't work with the One XL - Mike |

Well I took the plunge and bought a refurbed One XL, I'm well happy with it and it hasn't put a foot wrong, now I know that I'll also be to get a free map upgrade inside the first month, but where on the Tom Tom site is it available from?
Cheers

I am not too sure a refurb device will qualify for a free map update, but its worth trying:
1/ Make a full backup of the device using Windows Explorer
2/ Download and install the TomTom Home software to your PC Here
3/ Use Home to update your device to the latest software
4/ Use Home to download your new map using Tools/ Latest Map Guarantee
5/ Make a second backup using Windows Explorer - Mike |
