Advice Please

I have a Garmin Streetpilot 2720 I want to upgrade the City Navigator Europe V9 mapping. I see there is an upgrade for about £100 that I can continually use to upgrade for the life of the product at no extra cost. Has the technology advanced so much that my Streetpilot is out of date? I always thought the Streetpilot infinitely better than a Tom Tom but since Garmin had introduced the Nuvi range they all look the same and I am not so sure. I particularly like the beanbag arrangement that it sits on it is a solid product in comparison to the Nuvi range that look fragile. I wonder if I was to upgrade the software if it would have lane assistance or does that only come in conjunction with the new product. My dilemma is should I forget about the mapping upgrade and wait and purchase the Nuvi 1690.

The 2720 is a discontinued product now.Mine lasted just over 4 years but did do over 90000 miles in that time so I got my moneys worth But any software upgrades that are available will not bring it in line with the lataest gizmos. I replaced with the Zumo 550 which is good , although the sound is inferior to the 2720.

I keep on learning but they invent new things faster ,How do I keep up ?
