I have TT7 installed on my failing PDA. Just about to get a TomTom One XL with the same maps on it. Can I copy my existing mapsettings.cfg to the new TomTom One? Or do I have to set everything up again - speed cam voice warnings etc? Obviously I'll be copying all the .ogg files and the speedcam data from the old to the new _________________ Cheers,

Hi lencuff,
What ever you do. You must first do a full "Windows Explorer" backup of your new TomTom One XL first, i.e. create a new folder in your PC called TomTom ONE backup, create a sub folder with the relevant date, and then copy all files and folders from the TomTom unit to the relevant date folder on your PC.
Every time that you are going to updage make changes to the TomTom unit then make an additional backup on your PC. These backs will be very useful!
I shouldn't think that you will be able to copy the mapsettings.cfg file from the TT7 on your PDA to the TomTom ONE, because:
1. Different Navcore application
2. Different unit
3. Map versions are likely to be different.
There's no harm in trying, once you have a viable backup!

The best approach to getting your locations from the PDA based application to the PND is to convert your Favourites to a custom POI file, see Here for details on how to do this.
I wouldn't recommend using Favourites from now on as each map update and some Navcore updates messes the settings up, using a Custom POI file is far more secure method to achieve the same end result - Mike |
