Hi All, Just Joined recently, few questions, I have a garmin nuvi 265wt, i have downloaded the database along with the voice alerts (Liz) and traffic icons 22x22. On using the sat nav last night i noticed the voice alerts were not working, although they are all in the same folder, I am using voice directions ok on the garmin, do i need to change anything to enable the voice warnings?? Also do i need to use only the pgpsw database or can i use this and the garmin database although i think this is not as up to date!! Also i note that there are 24x24 icons can i use these on the garmin. Sorry for all the questions, not very good at setting up these things!!!! Confused

The first question is "Does yor Nuvi support mp3 music files?" - some do, some don't.

If it does, you should be able to use the standard instructions here:
Quote:

Standard PocketGPS File Users

1. Download and extract the contents of the zip file to your computer.
2. Copy the extracted .mp3 voice files to the POI folder you use when uploading POIs to your Garmin device.
3. Ensure you have ALL the POIs you wish to upload in the same folder including the correct version of the speed camera database that matches the voice pack type i.e. speed zoned.
4. Launch POI loader as normal, this will package the POIs AND the voice files and upload to your device. No further action is necessary.

You can also use "ASH10 Camera Manager" for more functionality.
The author's web page with full help can be found here.

If it doesn't support mp3 playback:
Quote:

For Nuvi devices that do not support mp3 playback there is an alternative option which you may wish to consider. This requires an Beta version of POILoader, v2.4.0 Beta available here. (5.15 Mb EXE Download).

Once installed you will need to convert the voice files provided above from mp3 to wav format. This can be done using a utility such as Audacity which is a free download available here. This method IS NOT supported by Garmin.

(All the above quotes are from the voice alerts installation page for Garmin devices HERE which implies that the 2xx Series Nuvis don't have an mp3 player)

Yes, I believe you'll need to enable "Proximity Alerts" in MyData.

In my nuvi 255, it's Tools...Settings...Proximity Points...Change.
I tick the Custom POIs box, and I uncheck the Garmin one to avoid double alerts.

Dales.

I believe you can run both side by side if you wish, but most people will turn off the Garmin ones.
