garmin nuvi 310 maps

This is probably a very silly question but I have more than one map installed on my device. The original Uk & Ire. which came with the unit.
Also I have Europe 2009 NT from which I have loaded the whole of UK & Ire. on to a removeable card.

The question is : On the map info where it shows which maps are available
if you uncheck the box against a map does that mean that that map will not be used by the device? and what will happen if you tick more than one map?

The owner's manual dosen't seem to answer any of the questions.

I have various maps on my nuvi255.

If you uncheck one box, then you will not be able to see that map.

If you check all the boxes, then all the maps are available.
