|

Hi Everyone,
I had the pleasure of driving up and down the M42 this weekend.
It seems the database identifies several of the overhead cameras but from what i can see there are still more not identified.
Before everyone piles in to correct me, i understand that not every gantry has cameras, but after checking the ones that are identified by the db i think i saw even more.
If i'm correct, the cameras are mounted above each lane and usually adjacent to the speed display of each lane. I could quite easily see that on some gantries these were not present, even though the painted white lines were still at the edge of the lanes.
Can anyone shed a more educated response as to how you identify if the gantry acually has a speed camera fitted?
I'm interested as to how the ones that are in the db were identified.
Suppose everyone will dash out and claim them next, but at least it will be uptodate. _________________ Go 720 v8.351 GPS v1.20 Boot 5.5120

Like the M25 the cameras are moved around from time to time. Some people have ways of checking where the cameras are - maybe with a radar detector and maybe by driving the route and spotting the cameras from the opposite carriageway. Either way it's possible the cameras are due to be updated in todays database release. Whilst these cameras do move from time to time I'm sure the database is accurately updated quickly. |

Ssshhh!! I think we may have a local "insider", although it's never been admitted.
Look on the submission map and you'll see we also have some dummy cameras marked there (with an icon of a dummy, would you believe!), e.g five such gantries between junctions 5 and 6. At the very least, they've been checked by radar detectors and we understand that moving cameras into vacant housings would be a major effort involving lane closures, so you'd be unlikely to be caught out by a quick rearrangement. _________________ Dennis
