Hi Guys,

I have a Garmin nüvi 300 and I can't get it to turn on at all. I've tried the in-car charger and a mini-usb cable from my computer.

Is this a common problem on these devices? And if so is there a fix?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Ben

How was it behaving, when it was last powered on successfully?

When you try to power it on now, do you get the confirmation 'bleep'?

It was behaving fine before, nothing out of the ordinary.

When I try to turn it on I don't get anything at all. No beeps, no lights, nothing.

Thanks for the response

The ON/OFF switch is a weak point, but wouldn't give the symptoms you're expericencing.

Has you tried both USB ports (ie the one on the cradle, as well as the one on the unit itself)?

Other than that, the only thing I can think of that might bring it back to life, is disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.

There are some dismantling instructions here and here (the second set are mine, but are more appropriate for the 310/360/370 - the 300/350 has a smaller circuit board and you can probably get at the battery connector without removing the PCB.)

Yeah I've tried both USB ports.

I have just ordered some Torx screwdrivers, would you suggest ordering a replacement battery as well?

Cheers

Ben

P.s.. I've just noticed that you are just up the road from me really. I'm in Macclesfield

Ideally, a spot of diagnosis with a voltmeter would be the first step, before buying a new battery...

I have a 310 and it died on me same symptoms as as above so i dismantled and tested the battery voltage it reads 3.76v . Is there any thing else I can try or should throw it away and buy a new one? It`s a shame becuse I liked my 310 .

I've taken it apart and it seems like a chip has blown.
The chip is located above the screw hole on the mobo.

Ditto exactly the same I guess it`s a weak point although I have to admit I was using a universal phone charger at the time which I have used before without any problems.I`v learnt my lesson now always use the dedicated charger .What to replace it whit tried the 765 but found it to be unstable and sent it back.
