I had, on my 765, every POI from this site on the SD card. No problems. I used the same on my 760 but it came up with the grey blobs rather than the icons.
Does the 256 category of POI apply to the SD card as well? I have removed them and put the few I had on my original 760 but would rather have more.
Thanks
Doug

Sorry but can anyone help out here? My POI count using POI Loader was 262,000 and that was fine for the 765/775's I briefly had until bricked but I have reduced it to 62,00 now for the 760.

I believe it's the number of categories that matters, not the number of POIs themselves. Can you merge categories together? You can possibly also get away with the "consolidated by type" camera set which would lessen the number of categories needed.

Thanks for that Gerry. Being the SD card, I can experiment to my heart content. What difference on the map does the camera "consolidated by type" sort over the speed zoned file sort I am using at the moment?
Also on the POI front itself, what would the best way of putting ALL the POI's on the SD card, as I had with the 765? CAn I just lump all the categories together i.e. accommodation rather than the individual bits? And does this work?
Thanks
Doug

I said that in case you were using the "speed zoned" set which is not as necessary on Garmins as it is on TomToms. It was an idea to bring down the number of categories you would be using if you had the speed zoned set.

Pass. I'll leave that for a Garmin expert to answer.

Used this option "Combine subcategories into category file" and appears to be fine now. Have thousands of POI's now.

The '256 category' problem, was actually an issue with the number of different bitmaps included in the file, rather than the number of categories. It was fixed long ago on the units that were affected. ( I don't think the 7xx series was ever affected.)

Thanks Phil,
Strange then and wonder why on my map, with all these POI's listed, I had grey blobs on the screen in place of POI's. The cameras did not come up at all.
With them as combined category, they appear as they should. I did not have this on my last 760 earlier this year but then I did not have the number of POI's I have now.

My suspicion would be, that you initially had some sort of configuration error and you inadvertently fixed it when you decided to get rid of the categories. In other words, a coincidence ...
Unfortunately, if POILoader doesn't find your associated bitmaps, you don't get any notification of the fact.
Not only does this apply to the olde-worlde filename matching algorithm (ie look for a .bmp with the same name as the .csv), it also applies when you have hard-coded a link within a gpx file Crying or Very sad .

When no bitmaps are present in the GPI file, the unit defaults to displaying the grey blob.
