Hi all,

I have been using TTN since v1 and on the whole have been very pleased with the application.

I am now running TTN3 and the other day I found myself in the situation where I needed to know (quickly) where the nearest motorway junction to where (a town centre) I was at the time was situated. For some reason (may have been due brain fade on the part of the user) I could not find an easy way to do this. I could enter the name of the town in the address locater and when I entered "m" in the street name I did see junctions such as M4 JCT5 etc. but this did not show the nearest as I required.

Sorry if I have missed the obvious but what is the best way to "navigate" to the nearest motorway junction?

btw, I have searched this forum and also tried to locate a POI file of motorway jcts. I remember that I had a used to have a POI file for my Garmin eMap that enabled easy lookup of the nearest junction.

TIA

Richard

If you know the motorway, then the best thing to do is put a departure on that motorway (tap and hold, and make sure you zoom in enough to choose the right carriageway) heading towards the town in the direction that you want to know the best junction for from people approaching from.

In other words, if you want to know the best direction for people approaching from the M6 southbound, put a departure on the M6 southbound carriageway some way to the north of the town.

Set your destination to your current location (if your GPS is active, double tap the GPS signal strength indicator in the map screen, then tap and hold on the circle), plan the route, and step through it in map mode (you can use the left and right buttons on your directional pad).

This may not be the neatest solution - but it should find the quickest route to you from a particular motorway, which is quite possibly more use than the geographically nearest junction on any motorway.

David,

Thanks for the speedy reply as usual.

I understand your thinking but I wasn't thinking about people trying to locate me and needing the nearest motorway junction. Its more like - "where is the nearest junction from where I am at the moment?"

Thinking about it, I suppose that for routing software that's a redundant question as the user would enter a destination and (if appropriate) the system locates the nearest junction. However, that not what I needed the other day.

Think I might try to dig out my old Emap motorway poi and see if I can convert it to an .ov2 file, unless anybody happens to have one already ??

Rgds
