Is it possible to have "Favourite" sub-folders on a TomTom 930T? I can see Favourites becoming difficult to manage ….. for instance, I would like to group my places in Spain in one place; a Spain sub-folder in favourites would be ideal.
A workaround (or a better option, depending on ones' point of view) is to create a Spain POI category, and put all the "Spain" places in there. This can be selected on the device as required when in Spain (or easily added/deleted in File Manager like any other POI). This method seems to give the user more control ….
See http://www.poieditor.com/
This can be used to create the ov2 file quite quickly and simply. A suitably named bmp file can be used as a dedicated icon, and an ogg file could also be used as an audio alert.
A naming tip : if the POI category is named "_xxxxx.ov2" then it will appear at the top of the list (the TomTom 930T replaces the "_" with a space). This helps to sort/find personal POIs within the long built-in list.
This is probably well known, but I thought I'd share and would welcome what other people have to suggest …..
Cheers,

Personally, I would say POI categories is the ONLY option. Apart from the alerts system and custom bitmaps, it can also be saved and shared. Also, if you update your map, it's possible that the favourites will be lost.
I would use favourites for "quick access" locations or for short term use only (eg the hotel you're staying in). It isn't a filing system. _________________ Gerry

Favourites are a "quick and dirty" way to save a location and are very useful for that.
But for anything you want to keep, save it as a Favourite at first by all means, but convert it to a POI as soon as you get a moment.
Don't forget you are also restricted to something like 48 favourites.
I started with one POI category for "Family" stuff and One for "Work stuff", but have now expanded it out for various hobbies and activities.
One oft-repeated tip is to name your own special POI categories with a "_" at the beginning, so the name will be "_Family" for example.
That means your special ones get placed at the very top of the alphabetical list of POI categories and are quicker to find. |

I presume this is a manual task, one can't add/move a Favourite to a POI category, on the TomTom itself?

If you go to Change Preferences / Manage POIs / Add POI / select the POI category, the next screen allows you so select the source of the POI, and one of the options is Favourite. _________________ Anita

That's what I do....
But if you have a whole load of Favourites you want to convert, you can open the MApSettings.cfg file in 'POI Edit' and save them all to a new POI category in one go.
See Mike_A's instructions HERE for more details. |
