I'm thinking of getting tomtom3 bluetooth for my Ipaq 2210. Looking at the reviews and comments it seems that this is a great product for street navigation.
My 1st question is this - could I use it for walking in the the Derbyshire Peaks or the Yorkshire Dales where I would be walking on footpaths across the hills ?
Secondly, I'm going to Portugal in the Summer for the football - I assume I could buy an add on map for towns and cities in Portugal ?
Thanks

The TomTom maps will be useless on footpaths - the chances are they'll show nothing. You really need a topographical product like Fugawi UK, Anquet or Memory Map for use off-road.

However, if you buy a Bluetooth or CompactFlash GPS, you can use the same GPS hardware with topographical software.

For Europe, the Major Roads of Europe is included with Navigator 3 Great Britain. If you want to add Portugal, the best thing to do is to buy the Maps of Western Europe add-on for Navigator 3, which gives you detailed mapping of all the European countries for which there are Navigator 3 maps. You do need a copy of Navigator 3 to use Maps of Western Europe, as the latter product is just maps.

The only thing you'll have to do to use the GPS in other applications, assuming you install a recent version of TomTom GPS (such as that included with Navigator 3), is uninstall TomTom ~ GPS once in the Remove Programs screen. That removes a Bluetooth driver that interferes with operation on other software.
