Hi,
I have a Go 710, probably about 4 years old, it will not turn on. I have tried resetting with a pin etc with no success, tried calling TomTom support, listened to some nice music, so thought I would ask here. Is there anywhere people would recommend for me to send it to be looked at,or any advice please.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it could just be a very flat battery if you haven't used it for a few weeks.

Leave it on charge overnight then try again.

Yes it does have the green LED. I did get it to turn on once, but have had nothing since. I will try a long charge as advised.

Thanks for the advice so far.

Is there any possibility you might have connected the wrong charger to it?
Do you have a DC Voltmeter that would allow you to check the voltage on the charger connector?

The results of accidental over-voltage are that it fries a couple of components inside which stop it working (usually permanently) but the green light stays lit.

I'm not saying this *is* your problem, but it might be...

No, its the right charger, just got a roll of the TomTom drums, then it cut out and will do no more.

Ah... Although it might not sound like it, that's actually GOOD news.

a. it means my "worst case scenario" has not happened

b. it means the hardware is probably fine, just the software needs sorting out.

Can you connect it to the PC? Will it turn on (even if the screen looks frozen)? What does the PC report?

I connected to a computer, but as I can't turn it on it does not show up as a removable drive.

It's possible the battery has gone so bad that it is putting a near short circuit across the charging circuit.
If you are up to taking the Go apart, it would be worth disconnecting the battery completely and trying again (obviously with it connected to the charger.

Otherwise for repairs:

http://www.satnav-shop.com/ - but from the website changes it seems to have stopped being a repair shop.

Sounds like the Satnav Shop has changed to the Satnav Repair Centre? Address looks very familiar?
