Just bought myself a Nuvi 205T and it worked wonderfully on its first journey today (Taunton to Shrewsbury), even routing me round an accident thanks to the traffic receiver.

However...

When I used to connect my old i3 to my PC, POILoader would automatically load, but it doesn't when I connect my new Nuvi.

Do I need to install any drivers? The Nuvi didn't come with a CD or anything.

Also, it hasn't got a MicroSD card in its slot. I want to download MaFt's excellent POI files that I've always used on my i3, plus the ever-reliable Safety Camera Database from this site. I've got a spare 2Gb card somewhere, so is it worth putting that in the Nuvi or does it have enough internal memory to handle all this?

POI files are very small as a rule, so they should reside nicely on the internal memory. As far as POILoader not loading automatically, I don't believe any of Garmin's software will auto-detect and load on a nuvi. Your pnd is being recognized as an additional mass-storage device on your computer when you connect via USB, correct? If not that's a different issue.

Check under My Computer to see if your computer sees the Nuvi. It'll appear as one or 2 new drives.

You don't need any drivers for the Nuvis as they act as Mass Storage Devices much like USB Pen Drives etc

The reason POILoader kicked in with the i3 is probably because you have a program (i think) was called gStart installed. However this no longer works with the Nuvis.

You can get the latest version of WebUpdater here and POILoader here from the Garmin website.

Woodzo, like you I've just bought a new Nuvi and can confirm what PaulB2005 says; when you connect it to your PC you will see 2 new drives, the first letter is the Nuvi and the second the SD card (if installed).

My Nuvi has just under 100MB free which is probably plenty but I opted to install custom POIs on a spare SD card I had lying around.

One thing I found after I'd loaded the POIs onto the SD card is everytime I switched on the Nuvi it showed this message:

"New Extras data found on card. Would you like to install this data so that it will be available if the card is removed?"

This seemed to defeat the whole point of using an SD card! It turns out this is a badly worded message, select 'yes' and you then have the option "don't ask again" to decline loading the custom POI's onto the internal drive as well as not see the prompt again, see this link:
