Hi guys,

Is their any way of calibrating the onscreen speed. It is 3 mph out which is really annoying?

It's not 3mph 'out', your vehicle speedometer is and that is by design. The GPS speed is the more accurate, vehicle speedo's can over-read by up to 10% and this is permitted in-law.

Discussed many many times here, have a search.

thanks Darren, weird to think that a satellite can be more accurate than the car itself.

thanks mate

Not that weird when you realise GPS uses Atomic Clocks for timing and cost a few hundred billion whereas your average car speedo doesn't and has varied accuracy dependent on type wear Smile

I think that cars sold in the UK are required to have there speedos 'clocked' so as to over-read. I am on my third sat-nav and tried in mant different vehicles and the speedos all over-read compsred to the sat-nav.
Tried my sat-navs in USA and the speedo agrees with sat-nav.

Not quite, the regulations stipulate they can be anywhere between 100% accurate and over-read by 10% but they cannot under-read.

Given the many variables involved it is easier to design them such that they over-read slightly be default.

And that's not just UK, the same regulations apply across the EU and similar ones operate in most markets.

A modern equivalent of the "Baker's Dozen" Smile

13th century bakers who were found to have shortchanged customers could be liable to severe punishment. To guard against the punishment of losing a hand to an axe, a baker would give 13 for the price of 12, to be certain of not being known as a cheat.
