Medion use a version of Navigon.
If you purchase one of the Medion GPS units you may have to purchase Poi-Warner if you want to use the PGPSW speed camera data base. |

And forget any ongoing support, new maps etc.
Just not worth it IMHO, these are almost disposable and at that price a false economy. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Despite Darren's rather negative comments, has anyone actually bought one of these, and if so, what do you think of it? |

They're negative from experience. If you want a dirt cheap GPS and don't expect on-going support and updates then they're a great buy. If you do want support and updates they're not. _________________ Darren Griffin |

...well I haven't bought one yet, but have to admit that a) it looks decent, b) the software is a version of Destinator which I have found to be good in the past, and c) for that price I can throw it away in a year - but no it has a three year guaranatee from a big name retailer, just keep the receipt!
Which is apparently much better than the deal with Garmin and my Nuvi 760 which cost £300+ and at 18 months old the best they can offer is a service exchange for £95.
So tell me what is so much better about a "big name" brand????

I have a Medion MD 96770 which is similar to that unit. But as I said above you would need to purchase Poi-Warner to use the Speed cams from PGPSW.
The unit is not bad, but I much prefer my TomTom ONE (for less) or the TomTom XL Europe 22 (from about £145 if you search around).
The TT's are far easier to use and have a better user interface.
Here are some images of my MD 96770
Sorry about the poor images. Best I could do at short notice, so now you can get some idea of what it's like. Most images taken in demo mode. |

I would also like to add my thanks to 'Pocketgps' for adding all those interesting images... an area in which I know quite well, as I used to work around there... happy days!
Anyway, like 'Ricardo5', I am also in the market for a new satnav at the moment, and was initially attracted to the latest Medion offer at Aldi. It does have the advantage of TMC of course, and European coverage, but is not a wide screen model. I do rather like the styling of that particular device though.
The TomTom XL Europe 22 can actually be picked up at Amazon for £130 at the moment, which does make it look very tempting... until I realised that TomTom have just announced the new "IQ Routes" edition models, which I thought I saw featured on their UK site last night... but perhaps I was mistaken.
It doesn't look as if these will be available in time for our visit to Portugal in May unfortunately, which is when I will need it.
Perhaps a temporary map upgrade in the meantime is the answer then... hmm... not sure about that though! |
