A few weeks ago I upgraded my 2210 ROM from 1.00 to 1.10. I had backed everything up using Sprite Backup on my SD card, but when I came to restore the files, it refused to read them as it said they were incompatible. I can’t remember now what the exact warning message was but it wasn’t too much problem for me as most of what I had was synchronised on Outlook 2002 and I reinstalled TTN2 et al with no problem.

My query is this… Following a ROM update does TTN see my 2210 as a new PocketPC or does the unit identity survive a ROM update? If the former, then this presumably counts as a second activation whereas if it is the latter situation it would not.

Your iPAQ should retain the same ID. Mine did for the recent update and both TomTom3 and POIWarner recognised the iPAQ as the same. Activesynch did not.

You should never attempt to restore (unless it is particular non-system files) from a backup taken before a ROM update was applied. The ROM update updates many of the system files and by applying the backup made before the ROM update you are trying to re-install the older system files. At best you would revert to pre-ROM update, at worst, some files would not be overwritten by older versions and you would end up with a system not working.

After a full ROM update, you need to re-install everything.
