Hi Chaps,
My TT720 is smashed & it'll cost £160 to fix!!!! FLIPPING HECK!!!
SO, & as I have a Brodit kit, have GPRS traffic subscription & quite like to TT, I'm going for a 520.
As the 720 was mine & I'd backed up the device is it possible & LEGAL to copy the European mapping from my 720 backup (as reconmended) & use with the 520???
(I presume that the 520 has a card slot)
If so, how would I do this pls?
Perhaps, I could just swap the map folder on the 520...could I????
Pls note: I'm not advocating any form of piracy, it could be argued that I don't actually own the mapping, it's just been licensed to me.

Cheers
Dave NN[/b]

The maps will only work on the device they were originally issued for.

Sorry but it would be more accurate to say it's been licensed for use on the individual unit. Just like OEM versions of Windows where it's locked to an individual PC and not the user.

Send TT a picture and copy of the repair quote and ask them if they will let you transfer the map. They can only say yes or no.

Several, but not all insurance companies do give cover for GPS units. Check if you have any cover on your car or home insurance.

Thanks for this & all the other replies.
Just bought a 530 through Amazon.
The 520's & 720's are like rocking horse poo.
I'll contact TT & see what they say. Truth be told, I've only really needed the TT 720 european mapping whilst I was in the Netherlands last week..but it may be useful in the future.
By the way, the speed cam database is EXCELLENT (TT being Dutch, I suppose)...but it didn't stop me getting flashed.
The dutch 'gatsos' (or whatever they're called) flash you from the front...so they:-
a) Sodding well blind you at night...not a great idea!!!!
b) Take a photo of the driver.... however, & this happend to a colleague, his car was flashed BUT as it was RHD his passenger's face appeared on the notice to prosecute......
TT have agreed to transfer my traffic subscription to a new unit.
To be fair to TT, the customer care has been excellent.
That's the main reason why I've stuck with them...
Will have to read up on the 530.....hopefully any of the niggles have gone.

Cheers

Dave a few pointers:

When you create an account for the device using TomTom Home make sure you use a different e-mail address for the new device, don't use the same e-mail as that used on your previous dead device.

Back up the new device fully to your PC.

Update the new device software to the latest 8,302 which does seem to cure the stammering and slow screen refresh which might save you from reading some very long threads!

Use LMG to get the latest v825 maps, although if your map from the 720 has been transferred you could use that. You might need to use an SD card for the European map on the 530, I am not too sure how much inbuilt memory a 530 is fitted with.

Makes a refreshing change for someone to post something positive about TT CS but well worth mentioning when they do come up trumps - Mike

Thanks for the excellent advice (as ever) Mike!!!
TTs RMA procedure works exceptionally well, in fact I'm looking to use TT as an example to 'my' own MUCH larger organisation.
Whilst the repair cost (the exchange rate hasn't helped!!) was much more than I had anticipated, the responses received have been nothing less than excellent.

Cheers

Normally that is excellent advice, but Dave says in his previous post "TT have agreed to transfer my traffic subscription to a new unit."

I'm just worried that might change the ball-game somehow?

I thought the subscriptions were locked to one unit (i.e. account), what have TT actually done? Might they have already assigned the new machine to the old account, or are they waiting for Dave to tell them the new account name?
