Can someone confirm to me what happens when you subscribe to the map update service, I have done this on the 530 when it recommended a map to me at the time (8.15) and it downloaded. Does it automatically recommend a new map when another is released?

I have just subscribed to the map update service on the 940 and it still keeps asking me if I want to subscribe to the update service. It also keeps asking me if I want to subscribe to the live services which I did around a month ago although the additional time is showing on the unit.

Also the map update was £33.45 plus vat = £39.80. I make that 19% VAT, is that another TT error or Dutch VAT?

Dutch VAT is 19% and that's what they charge (bit of a PITA with my VAT return!).

I can't answer for the 940 specifically, but I see no reason why the map update should work any differently than the x20s and x30s - when the new map came out for my 920, it simply said a new map was available, to download click now.

I don't know why you would keep being asked to subscribe to the update and Live services, unless you've got your subscriptions in a knot - you ARE using different email addresses for each device (530 and 940)?

I have just had another email from TT which was the invoice for the map update service and it no longer asks me if I want to buy it so I assume it was waiting for the credit card funds to be cleared before it activated.

The live services are showing as purchased but still keeps offering it to me. I wonder if this is because it is a regular monthly direct debit from my credit card rather than a one off charge, not that my trial has run out yet or my first paid month.

I keep my various devices on separate email accounts

Shame TomTom do not sell their services from their UK office as this would mean their services would be 4% cheaper.

I don't think they've got one have they?
As far as I know, all t he UK support calls actually get re-routed to Holland.

Two reasons why I think that...
#1, the Fax number that "UK support" ask you to use is a Dutch number, and #2 their answers are often in Double Dutch! Laughing

True:

Q. TomTom why do you charge 19% VAT when the UK rate is 15%?

A. You need to reset your device to factory settings and try again.

They have UK Offices in Euston, London but it's mainly design and management.

Do they not ask for a VAT code? You can't claim back the 19% VAT except direct from the Dutch government, and that's using a process that makes it not worth it. But they should ask the the VAT code and then not charge it, and you then enter it in the EC purchases on the VAT return to account for it. I hope that this is possible as my business will be paying the HD subscription, and I don't want to lose the VAT!

Now I may well have gone wrong again, but I reclaimed the VAT on my September VAT return, total of £25.63 for three maps. Indeed, reading my form again, I think you may have a point and I'll have to wait and see if they notice it. Pondering deeper, I guess I've paid VAT into the EC and reclaimed it from UK! Embarassed

Subscibed to the map update service last week and spoke to TT support today and was told(if you can believe it) that there will not be any new maps until march.
