OK - newbie TT Go 720 user here! (But long time TTNav and nuvi user).

Got the 720.
Upgraded to 830
Then went for the LMG map upgrade TTHome offered me - then it all went wrong.

On my home PC it lost connection with the TT server and it wouldn't re-start. No problems - take it to work and try on the higher speed network.

Started off OK (roughly 2 hours to complete) over the next 30 mins this went out to 6 hours - then it lost connection with the TTServer. I have been unable to convince it to restart the download.

I have removed and re-installed TTHOME - to no avail.

I've tried the hint on the TT support site - but the directory it says to delete doesn't exist.

I've e-mailed TT support - but I won't get a reply this year?

I can't believe I'm the only one to have this happen - I've done a few searches here but nothing turned up. Any pointers please?

I actually may get to like the 720 - but I am still getting used to the cumbersome TT menu structure again.

Hi Phil,

You backed up, right?

Is your TomTom 720 working or not?

If you restore to your last backup of the TomTom 720 when it was working (before the LMG update) then reinstall TT Home and try again. If your TomTom 720 isn't working then you will need to do this anyway. If your TomTom 720 is still working then it might reset any of the pointers that the LMG process uses to determine if you are still entitled for LMG

If you're still within the period for LMG then try again. If the LMG doesn't work then you may have to try TomTom Support.

Regards,

Yup!

Full Explorer backup before I did anything else.

So it's back to out of the box and re-try is it?

Ok - I wondered what I was going to do this Christmas!

Thanks

Yes, I'd do a full restore to the latest that the 720 was working.

BTW, I edited my initial reply whilst you were replying. Wink

Sorry...

meant to add that the 720 is working fine - just can't get the 815 map to download - which I would like for the lane assist feature if nothing else.

One good thing. This is my first TT device with mapshare capabilities and I have submitted an entry to block off the dirt track at the end of the road which TT (ever since the first version) reckons is a pretty quick way to the M6/M56 junction. I've been reporting this error every TT map release I've ever had.

Phil, you say that you have a backup so maybe this post will be useful.

OK...

At the umpteenth time of trying the "TTHome/Tools/Use Latest Map Guarantee" it seems to be working and a download is currently taking place. Looks as if I will be leaving my unit here at work as it's currently quoting 8+hrs to complete the download.

I'll take stock of all the advice given thanks - as it still has a long way to run.

The servers are occasionally unstable and/or slow and several other people have quoted these long download times - although I haven't experienced them myself (yet!!!!).

Hopefully, you'll soon become accustomed to the TT menu structure

Well it got worse before it got better.

Just before leaving work TTHome announced that it had succeded in downloading and installing the map. However when I disconnected the 720 and it started up - it couldn't find any map! It turns out that the download had been terminated somehow but TTH had decided to try and install the map - despite that Winzip couldn't open the truncated file. It would appear the logic works a bit like :-

Got a file downloaded
Let's delete the map directory on the 720
Now let's try to open and install the new file
Oh dear....

So I set it off again and it was belting along. I went back into work a couple of hours later and everything was fine. So 24 hours after trying to start the process I've got the correct map loaded. Hope subsequent downloads aren't going to be this long!

Now to reload the cameras ......

Occasionally, the device may get confused after a new map download and it claims that the new map cannot be found.

This glitch can often be rectified by using a high-tech proprietary reset tool (commonly known as a straightened paperclip).

It's usually worth trying a reset first, simply because it's quicker than a fresh download.

I would have tried that - but there was no map information in the Western_Europe folder on the device - it had all been deleted (it did leave the PGPSW camera files there though!)

A quick check of the TTHome download area showed a set of files. The main map file was only 1.317Gb. Winzip wouldn't touch the file. WinRAR opened it to show the contents but said it was corrupt.

The second download created another set of files in the TTH area. The map file was 1.71Gb this time. I suspect TT were having a bad time with their servers yesterday - as mentioned before I tried to re-start the process several times yesterday without any luck.

You would have thought their download/install logic would check for a complete download before starting to delete files Rolling Eyes

Anyway - all working and no stuttering Kate last night / this am. But it did download a "new" Kate voice for me as well.

Logic is out of the window when you are using the PC software with the device, at least you got the map through in the end.

If you want to read map information from the files in the folder using the PC without resorting to Home simply locate the file with an extension .pna using Windows Explorer and open this with WordPad or NotePad, it will reveal the map name and version number etc - Mike

Thanks to all

And a merry Christmas.

I'm leaving work shortly and hope to be driving around a bit over the next few days!

I'm sure that you haven't, but don't forget to load the latest version of the PGPSW camera database onto your 720! Wink

Merry Christmas

Correct - I haven't forgotten - I've also loaded the Liz Whittaker voice files - somehow she makes speed cameras seem nice!
