An increasing number of Garmin users have devices that support only .wav format POI alerts and their is a rumour that Garmin will be defaulting to that as the standard format moving forwards.

And so I'm looking to offer our Garmin alerts in .wav format via the download page.

But to save me re-inventing the wheel, if any of you have gone through the conversion process and have working .wav versions of any of our voice alerts, could I ask for copies to be sent to me?

It will save a lot of work and allow me to get as many of the current .mp3 voice alert sets available to download in .wav.

Thanks Smile

Also a request from me....

If anyone has technical knowledge of exactly what audio formats have worked for them on their Garmin machine - Sample rate (8k, 16k, 22.05k, 44.1kHz etc.). Bit depth (8 or 16 bit), Mono or Stereo file etc. I would be very grateful to hear it.

We have had some very conflicting reports in the past and it's a bit difficult to check it myself as I no longer have access to a Garmin!

Just for info, the values I quoted in my other post (16 bit, 44.1kHz mono, 705 kbps) are the ones output by Ash10's excellent (but CameraManager-specific) Voice Warnings generator. (I used this to record warnings in my own voice - and baffle unsuspecting car passengers!). Here's Ash10's suggestion:

Note that .wav files can be one of many different formats - I'd suggest sticking with either 16bit 44.1kHz mono, or 4bit ADPCM 22.050Hz mono.
(Incidentally, even after the .wav's are issued, people will still need reminding to put sox.exe in the folder where PoiLoader resides).

YEP - just like they always need reminding that the POI file is completely overwritten by POILoader, not added to Twisted Evil
