This is a request to those with x40s.

I have the feature enabled whereby the volume is supposed to get louder if the surround noise is louder. In actual fact the unit just has two volumes it chooses, quiet and loud.

However, it seems to be almost random in choosing a louder volume or a quieter one. Sometimes I am standing still and I get the loud volume. Sometimes I have the radio on loud, and I get the quiet volume. As of yet, I haven't found any consistency.

My first thought was that this may be a faulty microphone. But i did a handsfree call via bluetooth and the mic is working just fine.

Have others noticed this?

Finally, when I first docked with Home, it updated the female computer voice, Kate...but not the male one. I was curious if others found the same?

Jonathan

I take it by the lack of responses, that other x40 users haven't seen any issues with the auto-volume adjustment?

I tried it in two cars just in case there was some kind of frequency that was confusing my 940...but it behaved just the same...seemingly randomly Smile

Hi Mike,

Not quite the same. That poster just finds the volume too loud even on 10%. I don't find that. I just find that the auto-volume adjusting to ambient noise, doesn't seem to be adjusting logically...and more seemingly randomly.

But it may show there is a general issue with the volume management on the x40 series.

I too am finding that, at low speed, even a quarter volume is very loud. But, although I have linked the volume to speed, I find it too quiet at motorway speeds.
I find the speed camera beeps particularly quiet at speed. Is there a way to adjust the volume of these?

I think you are actually experiencing the same as me then. It is probably playing the louder volume at slow speeds for you...and the quieter volume at high speeds. In other words the inverse of what it should do!!

How is the auto volume is set/triggered?

Is it set by GPS speed or noise it picks up from the mic?

In my experience, I seem to find it is linked to the speed of the car, as when I have music on loud it doesn't appear to increase the volume, but it will do occasionally when increasing speed. Very intermittently though.
It does seem to be very random, as if sometimes it forgets to increase/decrease the volume, then suddenly remember several random min later!

Hi Graeme...Good question! I had thought it was based on noise....but now I am thinking it may just be speed. If it is just based on speed, even less reason why it seems to be behaving erratically!! Hopefully an easy fix in a future software update.

On the other aspect I reported in this thread.
Kate's voice is now up to version 710. Strangely, Simon is still at version 700.
