Hi

I am currently using a Garmin GPS 10 with my PDA. I have not upgraded to Mobile XT as you can only plan a route from your location or last known location if the GPS has no connection. So if I am in London I cannot plan a route from say Leeds to Manchester.

I now want to buy a standalone unit, the widescreen Nuvi 200, 205, 250 or 255 (whichever is cheaper) Can someone confirm whether (a) route planning is possible on these units and (b) whether you can include a via in a route (something not possible in the GPS 10 or Mobile XT).

Thanks

With the Nuvis you can turn off the GPS and use a Simulator mode to plan routes. You can't store them for later use but you can see where it'll take you.

You can also include multiple via points with these models.

To compare see this page

Thanks for the reply and the link to the Garmin site. The list of options on the Garmin site does not include what I am looking for (as far as I can see).

I think it's only the 7xx series that allow you to store 'pre-programmed' routes.

Pre-programmed routes is not an option I am looking for. I just need a unit that will allow you to (a) find a route between any two places and (b) allow vias. Thanks

I'm not sure i understand!

You asked about the units you listed

Quote:
Can someone confirm whether (a) route planning is possible on these units and (b) whether you can include a via in a route

To which i confirmed that both are possible with the units you listed and i included a comparison spec for each model.

You then said

Quote:
The list of options on the Garmin site does not include what I am looking for

You then re-iterated that

Quote:
I just need a unit that will allow you to (a) find a route between any two places and (b) allow vias.

which brings us back to my answer from Mon Dec 01, 2008 6:59 am. ALL of the models you listed will do both of those functions. Why do you think they won't?

What have i mis-understood?

Apologies for the confusion. I was just checking as the list of functions on the Garmin site you pointed me to do not include the two functions of Simulation Mode and vias. Thank you.

They all do Simulation Mode and Vias. Although Vias are listed as Waypoints on the list.
