Thanks to Slimboy Fat for the input in my 1st posting.
I took the plunge and got the Navman 3450 sleeve and use the Navman software on my 5550 IPAQ.
The method of windscreen mounting is great and I like the maps and the directions.
That's the good news.
The bad is that the unit locks up, usually at critical times on a journey. Sometimes turning the IPAQ off and then back on again works. Other times, I need to do a soft reset. Either way, I then have to reprogram the destination. Annoying if you've just joined a motorway and can't stop 'til the next services.
Navman have said that there is some interference between this model IPAQ and the 3450 sleeve. Their suggestion was to put some sheets of foil between the 2. It hasn't worked.
Is anyone else aware of this fault and do they know a fix ?
From reading the recent postings in the forum, I wish I'd bought another IPAQ.............. |

Bren,
I have the same setup and I suffered the same problem. Since then, I've read different stories about the cause being the use of a CF card in the sleeve. I've since bought an SD card and removed the CF card from the sleeve (apparently it's the physical presence of the CF card, not whether or not you're actually using it!). Touchwood the problem seems to have disappeared.
My system would lock me out, but continue to navigate. It just wouldn't let me change screen, zoom or anything. Is that your experience too? _________________ Tim |

Thanks Tim.
My system was doing exactly what you've described.
I don't know what to do now- get another card or go for a refund and buy something else.
Decisions, decisions..............
On balance, I think I'll try an SD card since I can always use it for something else if there's no joy with the Navman.
It seems daft that there is a CF slot if it can't be used though. |

The CF slot in the jacket worked absolutely fine with my 3850, and then fine again with my 3970. It's the 5xxx series which has a problem - something to do with the power draw of the CF card. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the 5 series has a replacable battery? _________________ Tim |

No joy with the SD card.
It arrived today and, full of hope, I loaded a couple of maps on it and got the Navman to direct me home (before anyone asks, I know the way home most of the time but it soemtimes gets difficult after I leave the pub).
It crashed as I came off the M6 at J20 and I had to do a soft reset when I got home.
Motorway junctions or large roundabouts seem to be where it suffers most. Don't know why. Don't care. It's going back.
Anyone like to buy barely used CF and SD cards ?
Cheers,
Bren |
