I noticed recently, while travelling from Reading to Taunton on M4 & M5 that while the mobile cameras (mainly on bridges) were announcing correctly. They were also announcing again just after I had passed the camera location on the map.

I hadn't noticed this before I installed the last database. Have I done something wrong.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Probably not....

Many mobile sites on bridges are used by the police in both directions.
As the TomTom models have a "warn only while on route" feature that should ignore cameras on the other carriageway, the location gets added as TWO mobile sites (on the main carriageways just before the bridge itself).

However, TomTom tweaked their own software a while ago, which now means a lot of these camera locations on the other carriageway are STILL picked up and so you get the correct alert, immediately followed by the one for the other side (which it says as soon as it can after the other one).

It's been like that for quite a while though....

So can you check where you drove to see if there ARE two camera locations marked?
Don't forget you can run a demo route past them too, to see what gets announced.

There are indeed 2 icons showing but I have mobiles at 70mph warning me at 1km out which it does. The second warning comes 1km later when I pass the location.

Yes, that's correct. The TomTom can only have one "live" warning at any one time. You get warned of the mobile 1km away, and that warning stays active until you pass the camera position. At that time, the TomTom looks for another camera and immediately finds the one on the opposite side of the carriageway, so gives you the second warning that you hear.

Is this a new function as I don't remember this before, although i haven't used it on this particular route before. Should it not warn me 1km on other side of bridge rather than when I pass under it ?

It has always been with us.

The reason it becomes more apparent now is that there are many more overbridge double locations now.

Thanks for all the answers guys, presumably one way around it is to have show only on route on, and the problems that it entails.

See Andy_P's answer above - this even applies when using Warn Only on Route. It now thinks that cameras on the opposite carriageway may be on your side of the road.

It warns at any distance within 1km, not at exactly 1km, so as soon as the previous live warning is "cleared", the second one is detected.

I guess I'll have to put up with it.

Thanks

On another car based forum I frequent, the subject of mobile cameras that capture the rears of vehicles (ie bikes) has appeared.

This functionality could be usefull after all to warn you they still might be watching you even after you have passed them.
