Do Garmin still give a free map upgrade if you register at the right time?
Should I register my Zumo yet or not? |

The unit only qualifies for a free upgrade if you buy a unit with an old map installed after a new map has been released.
If you mean, "If i wait until the next map release to register my unit will i get a free upgrade?" then i don't know. However if you deliberately lie about the purchase date so you qualify for a free upgrade it could be seen as fraud. |

The date of registration is now immaterial. The new system uses the date of first satellite acquistion as recorded by the actual unit. However the system is still buggy so keep track of the actual date in case you need to argue the toss with Garmin. |

Also registering the wrong date might invalidate any warranty claims as the registered purchase date would be very different to the receipt date which you need to provide to make a warranty claim.
Warranty claim can be much more expensive than new maps... |

I registered it. In my Garmin, it states the date of unlocking the maps as yesterdays date, not a couple of weeks previous when I first used the unit and the Zumo was connected to the PC at the time.
I few weeks ago I discovered that my old Quest wasn't registered (It had been replaced by Garmin a while ago). I registerd it but my Garmin reports the unlock date as back in 2006!! |
