Simple Question, which is the better CoPilot 7 safety camera database, ALK or Pocketgpsworld?
Neither seem to have all the cameras and some cameras appear on one but not on the other. I am also never sure whether to download the "single file" or "consolidated by type" from pgps.
Could this be anything to do with the way I am downloading to my Xda Orbit 2 (deleting previous files from Storage Card/CoPiloy/Save/EU) and then pasting new data to that folder.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers........Brian Thumbs Up

I'd be surprised if ours didn't have 'all' the cameras. If you look at our submission page you can check, where do you know a camera exists that we don't have?

As to which type you use, single file is a fall-back version for older devices. Consolidated has all cameras broken down by type, much more useful as you can quickly tell if a warning is for a 'possible mobile' in which case it may or may not be present.

Thanks for the reply Darren.
A bit more advice please, if you don't mind.
Two further questions; although the pgps camera alerts seem to work, do the icons appear on the mapping, only when a destination has been set.
Secondly, where does this "points of interest" thing fit into the equation?

Cheers...........Brian.

It's been a while since I used CoPilot so I can't answer your first question and am not sure what you mean by "where does this "points of interest" thing fit into the equation? "?

so long as you have turned on safety camera warnings in the settings then the speed camera icon will display on screen at all times. the directional warnings seem to work better when you have a route planned as it will 'know' which way you will be going as you approach a camera from a slightly different angle.

you cannot use custom icons though and all cameras have the same icon (from CP7's internal icons) and you only get a 'warning, safety camera' for the warning followed by a beep as you pass it.

Thanks guys.
What I meant Darren, was that, do the cameras have to be loaded as "points of interest" in order to show the camera icons en route as I have seen posts dicussing this very topic before.
A particular case this morning, when I passed a camera on the A35 eastbound at Chideock, Dorset. I got the voice warning, but no icon appeared on the map. I did have a route destination loaded. Any Ideas?

Cheers....Brian.

settings / safety alerts / enable (and choose distance)

settings / POIs / Show POIs - set to 'always'

hope that helps

Thanks, I really do appreciate your help. (it was you MaFt who recommended the XdaOrbit2 to me; an excellent choice)!

I have all the above settings as you suggest above. I have also just downloaded the latest cameara database (22/10/08 - consolidated all types). I'll load that and see how it goes tomorrow. (I have a 100km. trip from Dorset to N.Devon).

Cheers.........Brian Thumbs Up

PS. do I need to istall the non-camera files "need help", "release" & "license".
