Nuvi 250W power cables

Just replaced my trusty i3 with a 250W.

Couple of questions. The supplied power cord is longer than I need and bulky. I have a coiled cord that I used with my i3 for a long time but when I plug it into the 250, it is as if it is connected to thye PC via USB - just shows the Garmin screen with the PC icon at the botom but the satnav wont run. Is there something different about the supplied lead, they both seem rated the same.

2. Similar query, I have a mains charger for a Parrot Bluetooth with the same connector, same rating. When connected to charge at home - shows the same screen with the PC icon - which stays on when connected. Can I assume it is safe to charge the unit with this?

the usb power lead for the nuvi 2xx's must have different 'pins' active for saying when it is connected to a pc or just being powered. there's a way around this though but it's a bit annoying having to do it each time...

i can't find the thread (someone else may remember!!) but you had to turn it on but put the device in 'lock' mode with the power switch, THEN plug the power in. something like that anyway!!
