TomTom ONE v.3- how often will i need to buy updates?

Hi,

I've just spotted a good deal on the TomTom ONE v.s in Maplins and I'd love to buy it before I venture off on a trip on thursday.

But there are two things I have not been able to find out about it from all the reviews.

1- can I simply type in a postcode and it navigates me there, or do I need a street number and name?

2- how expensive and how often are the updates? I've been told to buy a satnav that has free updates, but I've no idea where to start searching for those. Would they be more expensive in the inital purchase? Do I have to have the updates on my TomTom if I buy it?

It will have full postcode support which can be used as a destination, software updates are free, map updates are charged for. A UK map will cost you around £40, they do have sales from time to time such as now where an updated map is £30 (prices quoted for the UK map, European coveage is more costly) - how often you need to update the map is entirely up to you, when you start to see roads that are wrong, consider an upgrade - Mike
