Canadian Tom Tom Users Frustrations

hi there i love my tom tom but it sucks for Canadian users. did you ever have to find a elementary school in Canada? then try and look for one in the states grrrrrr.

my friend has a gps brand name malegion or something and his map shows railway tracks and park names.

am i missing something??

i know the Tom Tom has a lot of features other gps's don't have but is very lacking in Canadian content and such.

i have a Tom Tom One 310\

There is a difference in size (often drastically) among the various poi.dat and crpoi.dat files associated with different models and maps. I do not know whether this will help but if you go to this link: http://tomtomforums.com/showthread.php?t=4998&page=7 and scroll to post 64, there is a link to get the .dat files for the 920 model in North America. However, the combined size may not fit on your unit and map since the combined size of the two files is over 460 megs.

Another alternative is to search the web for poi files in various categories that may be more useful to you where you live.

You are not alone...
In the UK, for years we have had dreadful POIs (TomTom were happy to advertise "thousands of POIs", but were totally unhelpful when you pointed out to them how poor they actually were).

For example, apparently there are STILL only one or two Libraries in the whole of the UK, and for years the only Doctors were in Dublin.

We have a pathetic "shops" section which apart from "Harrods" ONLY had lots of car spares places called "Partco" - a blatant advertising tie-up or what?


The matter only came to a head when TT added the "Help me" guides as a marketing gimmick.
Suddenly thousands of people were encouraged to click on "Nearest Doctor/Dentist/Pharamacy" etc. and were understandably irritated to find the TT thought the nearest ones were in Belgium!

They hastily cobbled together some add-on files to try to appease people. Unfortunately, they used data "borrowed" from various internet directory sites complete with the same glaring errors - my nearest Dentist became a residential house called "Mortgage Consultants" for example, and I actually stumbled across the webpage they had copied it from!
