Hello all, another newbie here.

Just a quick question about my Garmin Nuvi 250W with European mapping. I have downloaded the custom POI from this brilliant website and installed them on my Garmin. My question is… how can I search for the custom POI? What I mean is, when I select where to go then click food for example, it only shows the default food&drink POI and not the custom food and drink POI. The reason I ask is because I was out today with the Garmin in an area that I was unfamiliar with and I searched for food&drink and it only displayed the default (pre-installed) food and drink outlets rather than both, I found out later that there was a closer Macdonalds that the custom POI showed but not the default POI. I hope all this makes sense.

Thank you and all the best.

Edit...

Think I have sorted it, but another question, can you edit all the custom POI? So open the excel files and then create a file named banks for food and drink so it lists all food and drink POI within one category rather than separate categories? I guess this could take quite a while.

Edit...

Sorted it all out so mods you can delete or close this thread.

As you hae discovered, the Nuvi will only allow you to search the pre-installed POIs.

What you can do to organise your own custom POIs is to create a folder for each category in your POI folder on your PC.

As you know, whenever you use POILoader to put POIs on your unit, it loads them all at once, which means that you have to keep all of them in the same folder on your PC. If you create a set of sub-folders here, i.e. one for restaurants, one for cinemas etc for whatever categories you use, once they are loaded on to your Nuvi, you will have the same set of categories within your Custom POI folder, which may make it easier for you to find things.

That's what I do, have subfolders similar to the built-in Garmin ones.
Unfortunately it only supports one subfolder deep. Sometimes it would be nice to have another - say Banks with subfolder ATMs.

You can get around with this with careful naming of the CSV files to group similar POIs together, so in there Banks subfolder I have "ATM Lloyds TSB", "ATM RSB", "RSB", "Lloyds TSB" and so on.
