Tomtom 930 Memory

Hi all,

I am still toying with the idea of buying a Tomtom 930 to replace my 910, however 1 thing I am having difficult in finding out how much "spare" memory it will have. I notice it has 4gb's of internal memory however how much of this is used up by Maps and software?

The reason I ask is that I wish to add upp to 1gb of mp3's, will the 930 have enough space?

Oh and has anyone found the 930 any cheaper than £334?

The answer is "most of it". You could delete the US and Guam maps (after backing them up) if you don't need them, I suppose. Or you could put you mp3 files onto an SD card instead. The 930 can use both internal and external memory at the same time.

My TT920 also has 4Gb internal memory and nearly full with NA and Guam maps.

I copied the NA map to the PC and delete it from TT to free 1.37Gb.

I then bought a 8Gb SDHC card and loaded the NA map plus 5Gb of MP3 and photos.

TT picks up all of them. Thus you can use a SDHC card to store the information in addition the internal memory of TT.

Word of warning - don't put maps on a SDHC card larger than 4GB as the TT can't write to the address space above 4GB, so if you use the maps on the SDHC card the TT can't write some files it needs to the card and will crash/lockup/act wierd.

A card larger than 4GB is fine for reading files like mp3 - if you need to keep the US maps then keep them on the device and put mp3s on the card - a 8GB card should give you 1000s of mp3s.

Thanks Guys,

Useful to know, however I would have thought if Tomtom brought out a device with the FM Transmitter they would ensure their was space on the device to play something through it, oh well cant have everything I suppose. Will have to spend more money and buy an SD Card.

TomTom in my opinion has put the right amount of memory in the newer GO devices and have given us the SD card slot. The old 910 had a 20Gb hard drive - hardly power efficient etc.

Cheapest 1Gb (Kingston) SD Card from my nearest online shop is £3.67. Probably fast enough for MP3s?? But OCZ 2GB Secure Digital 150X Hi-Speed Memory Card is £6.98. Cheapest 4Gb SDHC card is a pricey £10.47 Wink

I can now get a 16Gb CF Card (for my camera say) for less than £130! I'd have paid near that for my first 128Gb one back in 2001 if I hadn't got my brother in the States to get me one for about £60. But this one is 128 times bigger Wink
